Transfiction is a collective of experienced native-speaker translators with offices in Berlin and Hamburg. We specialise in the translation of literary fiction and non-fiction, cultural and academic texts, as well as marketing and communication materials for a wide range of arts and business clients.

We offer a full package of professional translation services from German to English and vice versa:

With combined backgrounds in the humanities, journalism, photography and theatre, we have over ten years’ translation and editing experience and a strong client base of publishers, theatres, museums, galleries, cultural foundations and academic institutions in Germany and Switzerland. For more information, see our Clients page.

We translate a broad spectrum of texts, and are able to meet our clients’ often wide-ranging requirements. For example, for theatres we translate stage plays and surtitles, as well as theatre programmes and press releases. For museums we translate wall texts and audio guides for exhibitions, academic essays for catalogues, as well as communication and marketing materials.

If another language is required, or a deadline is particularly tight, we also collaborate with a pool of experienced freelance translators and editors with whom we have worked for many years.

To ensure our clients receive a polished translation, we work according to the “four-eyes principle” and proofread our translations internally.

We also offer our clients copyediting and proofreading services, from a complete stylistic overhaul to a straightforward line-by-line proofread.

And for clients who need help finding the right words, we also craft original copy to get their message across.
